Chettinad

Chettinad

Brand: Chettinad Cement

Owned by: House of Chettinad

Logo Designer: Ray+Keshavan | The Brand Union

Design brief: “In a changed brand-led environment, Chettinad was perceived to be dated, and often equated with lower value and poor quality. The new Chettinad mark reflects a brand that is smart, confident and world-class.”

God and ©

The old logo of Chettinad shows a deity. I couldn’t find a good resolution image; but I found the following photo. It looks like the logo is hand-painted on a wall as part of Chettinad advertisement.

We have already discussed the logos that sport a ‘C’ in the Central Mall article. There, we have listed this Chettinad logo along with the copyright symbol and CG logo.

Logo of Indian Cement Brands

Just to satisfy my curiosity, I looked for the diversity of Cement Brand logos. Here, logos are shown in alphabetic order of the brands.

ACC Cements

ACC Limited: Just plain typography.

Ambuja Cements

Ambuja Cement from Ambuja Cements Ltd. A figurative representation of “strength” is depicted in the logo.

Coromandel Cements

Coromandel Cement from The India Cements Ltd. A mason’s trowel, mixing bowl and a crown are shown in the logo.

Dalmia Cements

New logo of Dalmia Cements. More details are not available, but the colors are taken from Indian Tricolor National Flag.

JK Cements

JK Cements. This company logo depicts manpower and machines.

Malabar Cements

Malabar Cements. The logo shows an ‘M’ built like a fort. A wheel is also added that probably depicts an aura.

Ramco Cements

Ramco Cement from Madras Cements Ltd. The logo features a temple tower that conveys strength and a rich history and tradition.

Sankar Cements

Sankar Cement from The India Cements Ltd. ‘Sankar’ represents Lord Shiva and the logo has a ‘Trishul’ of Shiva.

ultraTech Cement

Ultratech Cement from Aditya Birla Group. In 2004, L&T Cement was renamed as UltraTech Cement after a merger with Grasim Cements.

Zuari Cement

Zuari Cement from Italecementi Group. This is the only logo that I like in this lot. The logo clearly conveys the main ingredient of cement: Limestone or Calcium Carbonate. Wolf Olins designed this logo for Italcementi in 1997.
